Scope of the Act

Description of the Establishment

The Act covers the following eleven categories of allopathic private medical care establishments. Each is subject to registration, renewal and periodic inspection.

01.Clinic
A single-practitioner consulting unit.
02.Polyclinic
Multi-specialty consulting practice without in-patient beds.
03.Hospital (up to 30 beds)
In-patient care with bed strength up to thirty.
04.Hospital (31 – 100 beds)
In-patient care with bed strength between thirty-one and one hundred.
05.Hospital (above 100 beds)
In-patient care with bed strength greater than one hundred.
06.Maternity Home / Nursing Home
Establishments offering pregnancy, obstetric and post-natal care.
07.Diagnostic / Pathological Laboratory
Lab or imaging facility (radiology, pathology, ECG, etc.).
08.Physiotherapy Unit
Establishment providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
09.Dental Clinic
Single-chair dental practice.
10.Multi-chair Dental Establishment
Dental establishment with more than one dental chair.
11.Other Allopathic Medical Care Establishment
Any other medical care establishment covered under the Act.
